Monumentaliteit en tijdloosheid spelen ook hierin weer een belangrijke rol.
Art
Guido van den Berg has been working as a visual artist since the 1980s. His work mainly consists of abstract paintings (mathematical figures in relief), with occasional figurative paintings and drawings. He uses a mixed technique: most paintings are oil on panel (masonite, mdf). For his relief, he usually uses sand, but sometimes other materials as well, such as wood, fabric, Perspex and whatever else he considers useful.
Sometimes photographs serve as inspiration for paintings and drawings. His work is characterized by its simplicity and use of colour. Tranquil images that stand on their own and reflect an intense feeling, which the viewer can identify with. The work is mostly monumental. It has also been said that it bridges the gap between the abstract and the figurative.
Photography
Through his photography, Guido van den Berg focuses on abstractions, structures and objects. Common aspects here are colour, shape, composition and light.
The photographs are often taken in a way that creates a certain alienation, and the object and its structure gain renewed (additional) value. Wonder at what he sees, captured in an image. The wonder that is always around us. The beauty of the most ordinary things. Nothing is nothing. Everything has its own beauty.
Furniture
He also designs and makes furniture. These designs are often sleek and simple. Transparent and clear: at a glance you are able to see how the design works.
Monumentality and timelessness again play an important role here.
